Because there is a Ernest Hemmingway quote that says "Decadence is a difficult word to use since it has become little more than a term of abuse applied by critics to anything they do not yet understand or which seems to differ from their moral concepts."
|1.||the act or process of falling into an inferior condition or state; deterioration; decay: Some historians hold that the fall of Rome can be attributed to internal decadence.|
|2.||moral degeneration or decay; turpitude.|
|3.||unrestrained or excessive self-indulgence.|
|4.||(often initial capital letter) the decadent movement in literature.|
